The researches in the field of mechanics within the system of Academy began from the first days of Academy. First studies were conducted in sector of mathematics and mechanics, then in the Institute of building materials and constructions (19451955) and since 1955 in the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics. In 1971 the Institute of Mechanics was organized and academician of NAS RA Sergey A. Ambartsumyan became the first director of the Institute. The Institute of Mechanics is a recognized research center, where fundamental theoretical and experimental researches are carried out in different fields of mechanics. The powerful scientific school of mechanics was formed in Armenia because of common efforts of Acad. N.Arutyunyan and Acad. S. Ambartsumyan. There are significant achievements in creation and development of new scientific directions.
